INADEQUATE FACILITIES. THE NEED FOR NEW BUILDING. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] , HAMILTON, Wednesday. The need for a new courthouse for Hamilton was emphasised again to-day. The Supreme Court was engaged in the main courtroom, the witnesses' room and passages were filled with people, and the Magistrate's Court was held in the magistrate's room.' .An indictable case, which should have been heard by justices was adjourned for a week because there was no plage avail able for the second court. Senior-ser- ' geant Sweeney mentioned that witnesses in this case had come from Putaruru, and the magistrate, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, said it was quite impossible to take the case that day. If the country could not stand expense in one way it must stand it in another. At four o'clock this afternoon the magistrate said the atmosphere in the room in which the Magistrate's Cotjrt was being held was stifling, and he would notsit any longer. All the cases not reached and the one in which the Court was engaged were adjourned. REASON FOE DELAY. DEPARTMENT'S LACK OF FUNDS. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT,] HAMILTON. Wednesday. Advice was received by the Hamilton Borough Council this evening, from the Minister of Justice that although the urgency of providing a new Courthouse at Hamilton Was recognised the building could not be commenced at the present owing to lack of funds. Strong dissatisfaction was expressed by members of the council, and on the motion of the Mayor a resolution of protest was carried. The question of a new Courthouse was brought under the notice of the Minister some months ago. The Minister selected the site and promised that, the Hamilton Courthouse would be plac<id among the urgent commitments of the department Finns were prepared two years ago.
