As the Salvation Army's home is overcrowded difficulty has arisen in dealing with the homeless unemployed. An effort was made vesterday to obtain tho use of the King Edward Barracks, but this was refused, the" officer in charge stating that ho would L"' pleased to make the arrange ments if accommodation was available. Attention has now been turned to the old fire station in Chester Street, and this, it is believed, will be very suitable as a temporary place. The Management Committeo of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening offered to make a substantial .grant from its annual charity day proceeds toward the relief of unemployment.
