s OBJECTS OF NEW SOCIETY. i ' FORMATION OF RESCUE CORPS. ' [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] * HAWEKA, Wednesday. Wliat is considered to be a step in the right direction is the formation of ' the New Zealand Mountaineering Club, j the idea of which originated at Welling , ton. The promoters' feeling is that if one ' life is saved as a result of their efforts to organise a rescue corps, their work will be repaid. The objects of the club are: —To circulate inlormation; to develop the art ■ of mountaineering; to form a rescue corps ' to be composed 01 associates and members of the New Zealand Mountaineering Club; to see that depots are formed in the ' chief climbing centres of New Zealand; ' to keep equipment for climbers, svith am- , bulance, first-aid kit, etc.. for rescue , corps work; to form Dominion rescue corps in the chief climbing centres of members or associates of the club; to build mountaineering huts wherever possible and to help in map-making and i photography; to disseminate literature j and information about the mountains and mountaineering districts in New Zealand; to explore the hitherto unexplored parts of New Zealand and to help in every way to develop recently-explored country; to form a body sufficiently numerous and influential to be able to present a collective and authoritative opinion on New Zealand mountaineering or exploration to any georgraphical society, mountaineering, exploring, alpine or climbers' club in the world; and to seek to affiliate the club with as many of these clubs and societies as possible.
