TELEPHONE SUBSCRIBERS.
AN AUSTRALIAN RECORD. There are now 436,000 telephone subscribers in Australia. According to figures made available by the Director of Postal Services, 5719 new subscribers were sapplied with telephones in March, this being a record for any one month in the history of the Commonwealth. The number of persons who have applied for telephones, but have not yet been supplied, is 6310. In April. 1923, when the department entered upon a more comprehensive programme of telephone construction, there were 14,709 applications waiting to be dealt with. The number of telephones supplied in April, 1923, was 2936, or little more than half the number installed in March this year.
