MT. WELLINGTON AFFAIRS.
THE ROAD BOARD'S YEAR. RETIREMENT OF CHAIRMAN. Theannual meeting of the Mount Wellington Road Board was held last evening, the chairman, Air. J. Wood, presiding. Several ratepayers expressed dissatisfaction at the state of the haunches alongside the concrete roads in tho district. Mr. Wood said the haunches were in as satisfactory a state as possible, and it was not advisable that bituminous haunches should be laid until the fillings had settled. In his opinion this would take at least 12 months. During the year a steam-roller had been purchased for £ll6B and a motor-truck for £IO2B. Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., complimented the ratepayers on the courage they bad always shown, and praised tho day-labour policy which had been adopted. For the population the district had the longest stretch of concrete road in New Zealand. Mr. Wood, who is retiring, said it was advisable before handing over to the incoming board to mention that during his term ox office several long-dated agreements had been made, some extending for 21 years. This period he considered too long owing to the rapid development of the city, and expressed the opinion that a live years' revision was necessary. Mr. Wood was heartily thanked for his untiring service during the past 18 years.
