LOST FROM TRAWLER.
FIREMAN FALLS OVERBOARD. ACCIDENT IN HAURAKI GULF. While throwing ashes overboard from the trawler Countess in the Hauraki Gulf near Tiritiri Island on Friday afterswon a fireman, Mr. Sidney Veale, fell overboard. Although a boat was lowered almost immediately, the man disappeared before help arrived. Tho trawler was returning to Auckland in a calm sea when the accident occurred. Mr. Voale went on deck from bolow to throw some ashes overboard from a heavy iron bucket, and it appears he lost his balance. The steamer's engines were immediately stopped and a boat was lowered. However, Mr. Veale suddenly disappeared, and a prolonged search proved unavailing. Mr. Veale was married, with three children, and resided in Great South Road, Manurcwa. He had been working as a fireman on the trawler only about a fortnight.
