Mrs. Jeffries, of Stratford, is visiting Auckland. A Mrs. T. B. Insoll, of Hamilton, is visiting Auckland. Mrs. C. H. Weston, New Plymouth; is visiting Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Swann are Wellington visitors to Auckland. The Misses Buckley, of Sydney, are staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Dargaville have returned from a visit to Rotorua. Miss Robinson, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. Knight,, Wanganui. Mrs. Frank Brown, who has been visiting Auckland, has returned to Inglcwood. Mrs. L. 0. Hooker, who has been visiting in Hawera, has; returned to, Auckland. Miss Walton, of Remuera, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. Hawkins in New Plymouth. Miss Holland has returned to Auckland from an extended visit to Kimbolton and Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. A, A. Cnrrigan have returned to Wellington from a visit to Auckland. Mrs. S. Bain, Remuera, Auckland, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Flavell, Wanganui. Mrs. H. H. Richardson and family have left Wanganui to take up residence in Auckland. Mrs. Leslie Averill, who has been visiting relatives in Auckland, has returned to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. B. Dawson, who have been on a visit to Wanganui, have returned to Auckland. Mrs. A. D. Stanley, of Remuera, Auckland is on a short visit to her sister, Mrs. Leitch, in Wellington. Mrs. W. H. Feild. of Wellington, is on a visit to Auckland, and is staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Lowry and Miss Lowry are sailing by the Aorangi to-day for Sydney en route to England. Mrs. D. Lang, who has been the guest of Miss Mowbray for several months, left for Wellington on Sunday night. Mrs. Sellars, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. D. Syme, Eltham, has returned to Auckland. Dr. Andra Warnock, of Auckland, has taken up her duties as temporary house surgeon at the Hawera Public Hospital, Mr. and Mrs. A. Henderson, of Auckland, who have been spending a few days in Christchurch, have left for Dunedm. Mrs. H. R. Cooke, of. Auckland, is spending a holiday in Wellington and is staying with her daughter, Mrs. J. Halligan. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. E. Ferguson, of Palmerston North, are visiting Auckland and are the guests of Mrs. J. N. Ormiston, Mount Eden. The Misses of Gisborne, who have been staying with Mrs. T. Savage, Remuera, are sailing by the Aorangi today, on a visit to England. Mrs. E. J. Riddiford, who has been on a visit to New Zealand, returned to England by the Ruahine, which sailed from Wellington on Saturday. Lady Richardson, wife of the Administrator of Samoa, who has been on a visit to New Zealand, sailed by the Tofua on Saturday on her return to Samoa. Mrs. R. Laidlaw, sen., and Mrs. Robert Laidlaw are sailing by the Makura to-day from Wellington on a visit to San Francisco, where they intend to spend some months. Mrs. M. Taylor, Wellington. Miss E. M. Summerville, Miss E. Cooke, Christchurch, Mrs. C. L. L. Tod, Otane, and Mrs. M. C. Balfour, Masterton, are among the visitors staying at the Hotel Stonehurst. Mrs. M. Barr Brown, of Auckland, has been staying for some time in Brighton. Her son is working for his medical degree. Sirs. The guests of iionour were Miss Whitelaw, formerly headmistress of the Auckland ,Girls' Grammar School, and later of Wycombe Abbey School, England, and Dr. Grace de Courcy, a prominent member of the Auckland association, who leaves this week on a visit to England. During the evening Miss Whitelaw gave a vivid and interesting account of her recent travels in Africa, which country she visited as member of a commission set up to investigate the problems and possibilities of native education. To augment the funds of Jasper Coder's " efforts to relieve distress during the coming winter months two very successful functions wore held at .Milfcrd recently. Sir. F. Baker kindly placed his grounds at the disposal of the committee, and thanks are also clue to Mr. Speedy for the use of the Picturedrome for a dance. As a result over £3O was realised, which will assist in lelieving distress both in the, Milford district and Auckland. Much of the success of both functions was undoubtedly due to the mitiring efforts of Mrs. Allan Brown, who had associated with her the following committee: —Mesdames A. Warbrick, Bull (2), Baker and Salmon. These functions were the preliminary of further efforts to be pursued during the coming winter months.
