AVONDALE BOROUGH.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.
The Avondale Borough Council met on Wednesday evening, the Mayor, Mr, W. J. Tait, presiding. An offer from J. D. McKenzie, to keep in order free of charge for three years the playing area recently donated by the Mayor, was accepted. The borough solicitors advised that the consolidation of several existing water loans into one could only be effected by - legislation. ft was decided to leave the matter to the incoming council. An offer from Mr. A. A. Curry, on behalf of the residents of New Windsor Road to plant ornamental trees on the proposed grass strip alongside the footpath in that road at their own expense, was accepted.
The building inspector reported that during the previous fortnight fourteen permits had been granted the gross value being £3338. There were 23 buildings in course of erection.
It was resolved to spend up to £IOO in repairing Taylor Street and Manukau Road.
The town clerk reported that out of the general rate of £17,400 struck, £15,000 bad been collected.
