[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIEB, Friday. The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union to- ! night resolved to make application to the } New Zealand Union to have the North v. South Island match played this year in Napier. It was pointed out that some years ago the New Zealand Union appealed to the major unions to do all in their power to assist the New Zealand Union to foster the game in the districts of the smaller unions. In response to the appeal Hawke's Bay had sent a team to the west coast of the South Island at a cost of £l3O and had arranged return visits at a cost of £llO. Last season a team was sent to small nor£hern centres at a cost of £2OO, so that in three seasons Hawke's Bay had expended £660 to comply with the wishes of the New Zealand Union. This, it ia considered, justifies the claim for the North v. South Island match. It was also pointed out that though many Hawke's Bay players were engaged the local public was not afforded an opportunity to witness any of the trial matches for the All Black team, and the itineraries of the last two New South Wales teams omitted Hawke's Bay.
