CLEARANCE OF POWER LINES.

VISIT BY H.M.S. LABURNUM.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURANGA, Fyday. The Tauranga Harbour Board met yesterday. The secretary of the Marine Department advised that the Naval authorities desired particulars regarding the new railway wharf and buoys at Sulphur Point Spit. The matter was referred to the engineer and secretary. The Marine Department also wrote in regard to the question of the clearance of the Electric-Power Board's transmission line in the vicinity of the Whakamarama Timber Company's wharf at Te Puna Point. The letter stated that it was considered inadvisable to depart from the standard which has been laid down. It was decided to communicate with the power board lequesting that the wires be raised in accordance with the Marine Department's wishes. It was decided to advise the Tauranga Waterside Workers' Union that its request for a shelter shed would be considered when the new railway wharf was opened for traffic. The commander of H.M.S. Laburnum advised that the vessel would arrive) in port to-morrow and fail on Monday morning. The ship would be open to school children and the public on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The conservator of forests, Rotoirua, advised that the forest' extension officer, Mr. P. M. Page, would visit Tauranga from April 11 to April 13. He will inspect the tree-planting carried out by the board on Matakana Island with a view to reporting on the most suitable species of eucalypts for planting there. Mr. Page will also mako inspections for the Public Works Department and the Borough Council. Mr. W. F. Sinclair reported that a plantation block on Matakana Island had been sold. He submitted for approval a plan of the subdivision. The board agreed to give consent to the plan, conditional. on a letter from the surveyor that there has bpen no accre.tion of land since the original survey.
