NORTH AND THE SOUTH. POPULATION CHANGES. THE WORK OF REVISION. PERSONNEL OF COMMISSION. [Bl' TELEGRAPH.—OWN COB,RESPONDENT. 1 WELLINGTON. Friday. The following commissioners have been appointed to revise the Parliamentary electoral boundaries, in accordance with the distribution of population shown by the last census North Island.—Messrs. J. Trounson, J. Strauchon, K. M. Graham (Commissioner of Crown Lands for South Auckland), W. D. Armit (Commissioner of Crown Lands for Taranaki), and W. T. Neil (SurveyorGeneral). South Island.—Messrs. H. Reeves, H. Quane, W. Stewart (Commissioner of Crown Lands for Canterbury), W. T. Morpeth (Commissioner of Crown Lands for Westland), and R. S. Galbraith (Commissioner of Crown Lands for Otago). The Government "Statistician will provide the commission with detailed particulars as to the distribution of population. The first duty of the commission will be to decide the quota for each electorate and the number of seats to be allocated for the respective islands. The boundaries will then be fixed, subject to amendment, on petition from the electors concerned id any of the changes. There are 76 European constituencies and their boundaries are revised after each census, with the object of securing as uear as possible equal representation. The 1926 census showed that the North Island possessed 63.39 per cent, of the total population and the South Island 36.61 per cent. It is expected that the South Island will lose ono seat and that the North Island will gain at least one.
