FROM HALL TO CHURCH.
IMPROVEMENTS AT BELMONT."
The congregation of the Belmont Presbyterian Church, at a meeting held on. Thursday evening, approved a scheme for the conversion of its present place of worship, which now has the appearance of an ordinary hall, into that of a regular church building. Within" the last few", months the organisation of tha Presbyterians of the district has exchanged its status from a mission station to a church extension charge, which entitled the congregation to call a regular minister." The Church recently secured the services of the Rev. S, J. Atkins, then of South Melbourne, who surrendered an important charge there in order to secure for his family the more salubrious surroundings that Auckland could offerWhen Mr. Atkins entered upon his Belmont responsibilities, six months ago, the communion roll of .the Church numbered 27 members; it ia now 53, and is still increasing. The works approved by the ccngrega- . tion include the addition of 16ft, to. the Victoria Road end of the building, with a more imposing facade than at present, . the lining and painting of the interior, and the renewal of the foundations by means of concrete blocks. At the same „ time the Sunday School hall, adjacent, is to have its interior lined and painted.
