GANG OBTAiNS £10,030. AMAZING BOW STREET CASE. A. and N.Z. LONDON, April 6. One of the most amazing cases in the history of blackmail was revealed to-day at Bow Street, when four men were charged with obtaining £10,859 from a retired Army captain, whose m.me was not disclosed. One evening after leaving a London theatre the captain was inveigled into a bedroom, where two men immediately secured £SO from him, under a threat of calling in the police. Later on another member of the gang secured £95 foi a passage to Algeria, £l2O on the plea of his wife's illness, and then £2OO for her funeral expenses. The demands continued throughout 1925, one being for £IOO for the passage money of two men to Australia. Finally a so-called detective named Lynch appeared on the scene and philanthropically promised to deal with the blackmailers. But Lynch quickly demanded £llOO, then £2OOO, until' the cheques given by the captain aggregated £IO,OOO. The hearing was adjourned.
