PROBLEM OF IDENTITY.
ITALIAN MYSTERY SOLVED. FINGER-PRINTS DECEPTIVE. WIFE REGAINS HER HUSBAND. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received ADril 7, 6.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. ROME, April 6. The question of the identity of the man who was discharged from a mental hospital at Turin a few weeks ago, who was first identified as Professor Caneila. and then claimed as her husband by a Madame Brunieri, now married to a compositor at Turin, has been settled. The man was kept in prison by the police. After a searching investigation, in which all Italy was interested, Signorina Caneila ha 3 proved incontestably that he is her husband, by marks on his body which hitherto had not been divulged. The case is a smashing blow at the finger-print system, as the police maintained throughout that Caneila was identical with a notorious criminal. Their finger-prints were said to be identical.
