THE AUCKLAND CLUB. IMPROVEMENTS TO COURSE. ■ , The report to be presented to the annual meeting of the Auckland Golf Club records that the membership at the close of the year was 405, including 231 plajying members. compared with 393 and 214 lin the previous year. ' "With a view to keeping the course ip first-class order,' 1 adds the r eport, "it new quintet mowei and motor-tractor have been orderedi and will be available during the coming season. On the arrival of this equipment, and in pursuaiice of the policy adopted by the committee, all the rough ill be cut out. "Consequent upon the greatly increased valuation of the club's property, an appeal was lodged in the Assessment Court, objecting to such valuation. The Court dismissed the appeal, and as a lesult the amount payable to the local authority for rates has been more than trebled. . There is still a contingent liability of £3OO m connection with the amount pay at) lo during the past year. " The committee has nhtamed a report on the links from Mr. C. H. Redhead, a golf architect with considerable e;:£cnence in England and elsewhere. The report will be of the greatest value in_ further improving the standard of the links. " Minor alterations and improvements necessary for the general comfort of members have been carried out to the clubhouse during the year. A full ropurt will be presented to the meeting dealing w;tb the future policy in connection with the clubhouse and the links generally." The balance-sheet shows a reduction 111 the bank overdraft from £2095 to £1463. PLAY AT MIDDLEMORE. Members of the Auckland Golf Club on Saturday took part In the second round of the 36-liole net medal competition for, a trophy presented by Mr. G. C. W. Morris. P J. Western, who had a lead of six strokes on the completion of the first round, returned a card of 75 net. and won the competition with a net score of 144. In the play-off for the January bourey competition, which resulted in a tie between P. J. Western, J. L. R. Bloomfield. and E. A. Dargaville, the first-named won with a score of two up on bogey. WAITEMATA CLUB. The annual meeting of the Wnitemata Golf Club was held last week. The balancesheet showed that the club was in a good position. Alterations to the racecourse had been completed since last season, and -the work of cutting the grass on the fairways was weli in hand It was decided to hold mixed foursomes on the opening day. April 23. Officers foi the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. R Wynyard; captain Mr. G. Jackson; vice-captain, Mr. J. Hogan; lion, secretary, Mr. K. A. Kennedy; hon. treasurer, Mr. P. E. Little; hon. auditor, Mr. A. K. Blackburn; ground superintendent. Mr. F. Warren: committee, Messrs. R. Broughton, V. Grahame, R. Johnston, S. O'Connor and E. Rudge.
