WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB AUTUMN MEETING ENDS. VICTORY FOR REREMOANA. LYSANDER BEATEN BY A NECK. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WANGANUI, Saturday. The Wanganui Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting was brought to a close to-day in fine weather. The racing was good, although tho fields were on the small side. Chief interest centred in the race for the Jackeon Stakes. The Hawk looked bright and well, but nothing appeared be fitter than Reremoana, who went down particularly well. The Hallowmas gelding ran a fine race and scored his second successive win in the event. It was a popular vietory. T. Bound, rider of Blue Peter, who fell in the Okoia Hack Handicap, sustained concussion and was removed to hospital. The stewards inquired into the mishap to Blue Peter and decided there was interference, due to Outfit coming in. It was decided to give the rider of Outfit the benefit of the doubt, the evidence being insufficient to warrant any action. Great Day was made favourite for the opening event, the Okoijx Muck Handicap, Outfit Blue Peter and Capitulation also being well backed. Prom a good start Great Day went out as pacemaker and led past the stand from Lieut. Bill, Bissac, Inoe, Outfit and Blue Peter.. The lastmentioned came down at the turn out o£ the straight. At the six furlong post, Outfit was in front irom Airtight, and they were followed by Captain Gazeley, Great Day. Kilmiss, Bissac and Lieut. Bill. Captain Gazeley went to the front at the turn and was followed into the straight by Outfit. Capitulation and Lieut. Bill. The last named finished fast and won a splendid race by half a length from Outfit, with Kilmiss a head away third. Capitulation was fourth and Captain Gazeley fifth. Ihe winner paid a good price. A Solid Favourite Beaten. For the Autumn Handicap Glenross was backed down to a short price. Ihe horses were in line when the barrier went up, but Glenross was slow to gather pace and Benzoin led out of the straight from .J. ho Thorn, Beaumont, First Acre and G-len-gariff. At the half mile Tho Thorn was 111 command from Glenganff, with Glenross, who had made up .his ground fast, n ext - Then came First Acre and Hipo. Ihe liiorn led into the straight from GlengarifE ana Glenross, with Star Area next. Star Area ran to the front inside the distance and won by three-auarters of a length from Beaumont, who finished fast and beat Gleiigarift by two lengths. Hipo was fourth. Buoyant fifth and the favourite next. The Hawk was- made favourite for the Jackson Stakes, being entrusted with nearly twice aB much money as Grand Ivmght. Lysander and Limited wens next in demand. From a good start Limited was Quickest to show out, followed by The Hawk. At the half mile Limited was -still making the pace, with Lysander close up and the other three in a line. Limited was first to enter the straight, with Lysander almost on terms and Reremoana closing up, just clear of The Hawk. , , , . , , • At the distance Lysander had his head in front, but Reremoana tackled him and gradually forged ahead to win by a neck from Lysander,. who The Hawk by a similar distance. Grand Knight was only a head away fourth, with Limited two lengths further back. The Hawk appeared to get blocked at the bottom of the straight. Ardath Wins Comfortably. Ardath was made a good favourite for the Fordell Hurdles. Matu led over the first hurdle, but Gold Peak was soon in front and led past the stand from Ardath, Matu and Comedy Prince, with Elvaette last. Jumping well, Gold Peak' continued in the lead to the back stretch, but Ardath was on terms with Gold Peak crossing the top. Ardath led into tho straight from Matu and Gold Peak and drew out fo win by five lengths, four lengths separating second and third. Elvaette was fourth. For the Two-year-old Handicap there were only four starters and Damaris was made a warru favourite. Panther led out from the barrier, followed by Vigilance, Damaris being very slow to find her feot. Crossing the top Vigilance was in front, followed by Ruanui and Damaris. The latter was close up in second place behind Vigilance entering the straight and, taking command inside the distance, won by a long neck from ' Panther, with Vigilance a length away third. There were only seven starters in the Earlo Stakes, but it provided a great race, five horses being almost in line 50yds. from the post. Novar was favourite, with Mint Leaf and Nukumai also well backed. Novar was the first; to show out, but Ngata and Opa led Novar to the stand. They were still in front going along the back, followed by Nukumai and Novar, with Mint Leat next. Ngata was first to turn into the straight from Opa, with Mint Leaf and Nukumai on terms next and Novar at the head of the others. Nukumai and Mint Leaf were together in front at the half distance, but Novar challenged and, finishing well, won by three-quarters of a length from Nukumai, who beat Mint Leaf by a head, with Opa Ngata together a neck away. Whenuanui Scores. , Orcades was withdrawn from the Matarawa Hack Handicap, leaving ten starters. King's Folly was made a very hot favourite, with "Whenuanui next in favour. The start was a good one, Seastar, Ohui and Whenuanui being the first to become prominent. As they crossed the top Ohui was piloting the field, with 'Whenuanui, Break of Day and King's Folly following. When they entered the straight Whenuanui was in command and he had King's Folly and Ohui as his nearest attendants, with Paitonu next. Whenuanui drew out to win by two lengths from the favourite, who beat Paitonu by a length. Royal Elm was fourth and Break of Day fifth. The winner went a much better race to-day with B. Morris m the _ saddle than he did 011 Thursday when ridden by J. Barry. There were eight starters in the Farewell Handicap, Civility, Benzora and Oration being withdrawn. The public went very strongly for Shirley, while Gaillard was second choice. Tamatete, Shirley and Deluge were first to show out. Shirley was in front at the half mile, with Nadarino almost 011 terms and then came Tamatete. There was little change until the straight was reached Here Shirley drew away, but Merry Jest finished fast and got up to within half a length of Shirley at the post. Mireusonta was three-quarters of a length away third. Jvadanno fourth and Gaillard fifth. DETAILS OF THE RACING. [BV TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI. Saturday. Haze's win in the Trial Stakes at Riccarton to-day broko an exasperating spell of bad luck which had followed this Australianbred gelding throughout his racing career. As a three-year-old he was second in his last six engagements, which included the Greats Auturn Handicap and Havvke's Bay Cup. while last season he was second twice, one of the races being the Metropolitan Handicap, in which Rapine beat him. This season he had been twice second and twice third prior to to-day, when he won his first race Haze stays well and further successes may come his way. The Martian gelding Tiff still looks backward, and he was beaten a long way from home in moderate company at Riccarton -to-day. Calcite was unlucky in the Trial Stakes to-day. She drew inside position, but was chopped out at the start, and the ground she lost cost her any chance she might have had. It looked as if it was a good chance, as she made up a lot of ground and finished third. Agrion's easy win in the Middle Park Plate stamped him as ». really good two-year-old, and he is going to carry Mr, Greenwood's colours with credit in important events later in the season. The Dunedin two-year-old Ark Royal was a disappointment in the Middle Park Plate. He was in receipt of 17ib. from Agrion, but ho made a poor show at the finish, after being well placed eariy. Few people regarded Royal Tractor as a serious proposition in the Middle Park Plate, but he beat all his opponents with the exception of Agrion. He has only won one small hack race, but in spite of being touched in the wind he looks like doing well in minor sprint races. Autobiography, a stable-companion of Ag rion. showed a lot of speed in the Middle Park Plate. It was his first race and he should be worth keeping in mind for a race very soon. There, can be no further doubt that Footfall is a really good horse. He carried his 10.2 in the Midsummer Handicap to-day in great style, and had the opposition well beaten a furlong from home. He is notyet st the limit of his prowess, and 1 expect him to prove better than ever nest season Battlement gave a glimpse of his real form in the Midsummer Handicap, which he was_ staying on very solidly, just getting sip in the ast stride to snatch second place On this form he may win a race over a longer journey before the end of the season Front Rank ran a decent race in the Mid summer Handicap, but she never looked like a winner over the last furlong. Shalimar, the winner.of the Lytteltori Han dicap, is a half-sister to Solsfonn and Ophir. being by Sufa'a from Adam by Dswbe frfim Golden Slipners, sister to Perlc D'Or She is a smart galloper with plenty of stam ins, which will help her later over longer tourneys. Nincompoop ran out seven fnrlcncs very folidiy when he won the Craven Plate today. He now looks -a first-class prospect. ana the Great Easier Handicap amy not be bevond him. Countersign was unlucky in the Crnver, Plate. She tailed of! early, but finished up with a strong ran, which landed her in fourth n'ace. It transpired later that her rider hnd lost a stirrup early, and this cost her the race Serrtina snowed improved form when she won the Halswell Handicap. She stem* to be staying on with age. M-jst® • Clarence ran a good race in the Hslswell Handicap, and he can be marked of? for another win verr soon.. Ophir. who won the Farewell Handicap, is not good beginner, bat hj« ha# 9 fine ftr.iehihx run and it was to this he owed his success. p"t up a good performance in the Post Handicap, mrhtn narrowly beaten br Oiihir. Thcrr.dale «tays well, but the woiaht ioat found him out' .at the end. Mr, G. 15 Greenwood had a Tileasing record si Riccarton to-day, furnishing the winner in three _ events. Haz-e won the Trial Stakes, Agrion. scored in the Middle PnrV and Snal>rn<tr won the Lyitftlton Handicap, these being the only races in «rlaea he was represented.
