NATIONAL PARK ROADS.

CONSPICUOUS IMPROVEMENT FACILITIES FOR MOTORISTS. Motorists vrho visited the National Park during the last few weeks have returned to Auckland declaring that the roads surpassed expectations. By comparison with last summer the conditions show a great improvement, and only seven miles of road is now unmetalled between the Whakapapa Huts and Tashape. Mr. R- E. Charnptaloup, service officer of the Auckland Automobile Association, who returned to the city yesterday, said he found that remarkable energy in road construction had been concentrated in the National Park district. He advises motorists that the section of unmetalled road between Wsiouru South and 11ihitilii is s'till the most sensitive to weather changes. Between Waimarino and Raetihi, priaon laboar has effected great improvements. The formerly notorious section' of road near the Makatote Viaduct has been transformed into a creditable highway. North of P.aurimu, the narrow track of the past has bees replaced by smooth surfaces laid under main highway specs, fications. Between Tokaanu ana Taupo, two streams have been bridged, North of Taupo many corners have been cut. back and the graders have reached a point 20 miles north of Taupo in thdr constructive journey southwards, The clay stretch between Putafrnru and Lienfield, which has trapped many cars in the past, has been tar-sealed by the Matamats County Conned. The only portion of this district which is neglected lies between Te Kuiii and Tauinarunui. This portion of the main highway is in a deplorable .condition, but it seems to be left out of the scheme of things for the present.
