NELSON FRUIT EXPORT.

SHIPPING DISABILITIES. GROWERS TAKING ACTION. [BY telegraph.—press association.) NELSON, Monday. The strong feeling existing throughout the Nelson province at the failure of the Oversea Shipping Committee to provide adequate shipping from the port of Nelson for the carriage of apples overseas was exemplified to-day at a large gathering of growers at the Nelson Institute. Those present represented the whole of the apple districts fi'om Stoke to. Riwaka. The question of having steamers sent to the port of Nelson for direct loading was thoroughly discussed and it was unanimously resolved "That this representative meeting of growers strongly emphasises that Nelson's dominant position in the production of export fruit entitles us to direct shipment from Nelson and a discontinuance of the present policy of centralisation in Wellington. The meeting calls upon the Nelson representatives on the Contfol Board to take immediate action to secure the above changes in policy." It 'was- also resolved that a deputation of growers should meet the Control Board in Wellington this week and join a deputation to the Overseas Shipping Committee, and particularly to arrange for a steamer to load at Nelson in February.
