SKIFFS FOR RACING.

PURCHASES IN ENGLAND. THIRTEEN BOATS BOUGHT[FROM Oim O'VN COmtESPONDENTJJ LONDON, Deo. 28. Rowing circles in tho Dominion are doubtless keenly awaiting tho arrival from England of tho 13 best-nnd-brsisfc eightoared racing boats, tho order for whicb was placed recently by tho New Zealand Amateur lowing Association with tha well-known firm of Thames-aid® racingboat builders, Messrs. G, Situs and Sous, through Mr. C. J. Wray. So promptly was tho order pat in hand by this old-established firm that eight of the boats are already on their way out—namely, two for Auckland,, two for Lyttolton, two for Wellington, and two for Otinedin. Tho lonic, leaving at tha end of this month, will carry four more—two for Wanganui, one for Picten, and one for Blenheim. The thirteenth will follow very soon afterwards. It is now on tho stocks. Tliia will be tho special boat for championship racing purposes,-ordered by the Wellington Rowing Club. All the boats, of tho finest quality cedar wood, have been built for the average of 12-stone crews. Each measures 61ft, iu length, but, being built oft tha thro® emotions principle, each is easily transport* able, and it will bo possible, in tl.« Dominion, to rail any one conveniently _to any other centre, if desired. Each section ! measures just under 21ft., and one boat, in its three sections, can bo fitted comfortably into its packing case of not unwicldly length. All have been constructed on th« saino lines as the boat which Messrs, Sires built for the N.Z.E.F. crew in 191&---a boat which put up an excellent record m the Thames, as well as on the Seine, Ct will be recollected that wi tho Olympic contests in Paris this boat beat all the other crews of tho 12-stone awago weight, and it would doubtless have done equally well at Henley if its ex-service oarsmen had not been a little stalo after taking part in all the principal #veats rowed en the Thames during the trjonths prior to Hcaley. Most of th« new; boat* shoold arriro at their destinations by the end of January, and thus b« available for ifep principal championship regattas, tt-522=SE _
