BEEP-SEA FISHING.

SPORT OFF MAYOR ISLAND. SWORDFISH AND MAKO. [EX TELEGRAPH- —OWN COREESPONDENT.] . TATTRANGA, Monday. Several parties of anglers visited Mayor Island during the week-end, and enjoyed good sport. Fish of all kinds were plentiful, and numerous swordfish were seen. Mr. T. Struthers, of New Plymouth, captured a large mako shark with rod and line and single hook. The fish fought tenaciously for an hour and 25 minutes before it was drawn alongside the launch Hokimai and galled. It weighed about 5601b. Mr. Struthers also hooked a large swordfish, which he held for 25 minutes. It gave a wonderful display and several times leaped out of the water. Eventually it broke the line and escaped. The same angler also caught a number of kicgfish. the largest weighing 601b. The latter fought well for half an hour. A party aboard the launch Kingfish hooked a swordfish which played for 40 minutes, and was then lost. A very large mako shark was hooked from the "launch Oceanic, and after a keen fight was harpooned, but it got away with the tackle. Fishing from the Hokimai recently oS Mayor Island. Mr. W.
