PRESERVING A HIGH TONE. LEGISLATION IN BRITAIN. A; and N.Z. LONDON. Deo. 14. In the House of Lords, supporting the second reading of the Judicial Proceedings (Regulations of, Reports) Bill, Lord Burnharrj said the balance of advantage lay with the bill, which would cover up social sores. Although cases would not be reported at Home, it was certain they would be sent to the United States and the Dominions. The cables to Australia were never busier than during a certain peer's divorce case. The bill passed all stages. The bill regulates newspaper reports of trials and prohibits the publishing of reports of any judicial proceedings which may tend to the detriment of public morals. It is aimed at reports of unpleasant divorce cases and crimes, which have recently occupied much space in certain newspapers.
