GLASS WORKS DISPUTE.

A PROPOSAL TO STRIKE. SECRET BALLOT ON MONDAY. I WAGES AND WORK CONDITIONS. A secret ballot 011 a proposal to strike is to be taken next Monday among members of the Auckland Glassworkers' Union concerned in tbo dispute with the Australian Glass ■Manufacturers' Company on the question of wages and conditions of employment. The ballot, which will bo conducted by the Registrar of Industrial Unions under the provisions of the Labour Disputes Investigation Act, arises out of the failure of the parties to reach a settlement of the dispute. The Act gives the Minister of Labour power to set the machinery in action in an endeavour to effect a settlement. In the event of no recommendations being made the registrar is em- ' powered to take a secret ballot 011 a proposal to strike. This stage has now been reached in the dispute and the ballot will bo taken on Monday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4.30 p.m., the polling-place being the glass works at Penrose. There is provision for persons having the necessary qualifications to record their votes at the office of the Department of Labour at Auckland.
