REPERTORY MOVEMENT.
LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY. The need for advancing the repertory movement in Auckland, especially by enlisting new members, was emphasised by Mr. L. P. Leary, who presided at the annual meeting of the Auckland Little Theatre Society last evening. Mr. Leary paid a tribute to the work of the late Mr. H. J. Bentley, the producer and organiser, who had been in a sense the founder of the society. On Mr. Bentley's death Mr. J. M. Clarke had assisted the society as producer, and had done splendid work. Two plays had been produced. "The Dover Road" had been artistically a success, but the society had had to look to "Quinney's" to square its finance. Two readings had also been held during the year. As a tribute to the late Mr. Bentley and an acknowledgement of the services of Mr. Clarke, Mrs. Bentley end Mr. Clarke had been elected life members of the society, these two being the first upon whom the honour had been conferred. Mr. Clarke contemplated retiring from th« position of producer, and the committee had in view a successor, whose name would bo announced shortly. It was hoped that at least three and possibly four productions would bo given in the coining year. Tho following officers were elected Patron, Mr. C. F. Thomas; vice-patrorm, Professor K. M. Algie, Dr. C. E. Maguire, Dr. P. H. Buck, Messrs. A. M. Ferguson,"!!. C. Cutten, H. Haywafrd, H. McCoy and J. W. Shaw; committee, Messrs. W. J, Crowther, L. P. Leary, F. L. Armitage, T. J. Elliott, A. V. Hunt, A. Goodwin, E. G, Coats, Humphrey Clark, A. E. Mulgan, E. S. Kolin and Dr. Frank Macky; secretary and treasurer, Mr, T. J. Spry.
