John Hamilton, who had pleaded guilty to two charges of theft as a servant and two oii forgery, appeared for sentence before Mr... Justice MacGregor in the Supreme Court to-day. Mr. White said that Hamilton, who had been employed by the Farmers' Cooperative Association as a ledger-keeper, was 43 years of age, was married and had two children. The totalisator on which he had worked was the cause of his downfall. Counsel submitted that it was a case for probation. His Honor said he had to consider the effect on other people of the treatment given to Hamilton. He had given way to drink arid gambling and had betrayed the trust placed in him. Probation was out of the question. Prisoner-would be ordered to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding two years,. ,
