GOING TO CANBERRA.
OPENING OF PARLJAMENT. CROWD OF VISITORS EXPECTED The question of tho number of people who will visit Canberra .for the opening of the Australian Federal Parliament en May 9 next year was referred to recently by the chairman of the Royal Visit Cabinet Committee, S'anator Pearce. Although no announcement had been made, said Mr., Pearce, his committee and the Commonwealth Director. Sir Brudenell White, had been busy collecting data on which to venture a forecast. The capacity of the railways, cr rather of the line between Gonltorn and Queanbeyan, a matter which the railway experts 'had undertaken to determine, would, he said, indicate the maximum number's that were able to travel by train, but those, to go- by motor did not at first sight seem to be readily assessable. There was no doubt, said Mr. Pearce, thai the desire to be present on tie historic occasion would tempt a very lartre number to oindertake Itha trip, but. it hart to be remembered;* assuming the numbers to be large, that the problems of fond and shelter, and of petrol and other supplies en route and at : the capital would be greasy accentuated, as compared' with noma] conditions.
