TAIHAPE NOTES.

CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. ARRANGING SPORTS FIXTURE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAIHAPE, Wednesday. The executive of the Taihape and District Caledonian .Society met this week, Mr. W. R. Anderson presiding. The Rangitikei A. and P. Association wrote granting the ,use of the association's hurdles for the Caledonian sports, and stating that the association would be only too willing to assist the society toward making a success of the sports. The chairman stated that Mr. A. Begg had offered a £2 2s medal as a points prize for the best local girl dancer under 14 years of age. Mr. Begg was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his offer. Mr. George Watt, of Hunterville, was appointed judge of the horse jumping events, subject to his consent being obtained. The secretary was instructed" to approach Mr. McKenzie Forbes, of Wanganui, and ask him to judge the dancing events. The final meeting for the year of the Otaihape Literary Circle was ■ held in St. Margaret's Parish Hall, the evening taking the form of a social gathering and a farewell to the president of the circle, Mr. W. E. Hird, who is leaving Taihape next week on an extended tour of the United States and Canada. A number of vocal and elocutionary items were contributed by members of the circle, after which Mr. G. King presented Mr. Hird with a gold-mounted fountain pen. On behalf of the library subscribers Mrs. J. Smart presented Mr. Hird with a case of pipes. . The committee of the Taihape Swimming Club met this week, Mr. C. L. Dymock presiding over a full attendance of members. Mr. L. Jackson was appointed caretaker of the baths. It was deckled that the baths should be opened to /swimmers at 7 a.m. on Saturday next, providing the council workmen have finished their renovating work by that time.
