COUNTY ROADS PROBLEM.
MERGING SCHEME OPPOSED. TAMAHERE BOARD'S ATTITUDE. The Tamahera Road Boarcl met at Matangi this week, Mr. H. Marychnrch, chairman, presiding." Tho question of merging with the Waikato County was the principal matter claiming the attention of thei board. A letter was received from tho Whangamarino Road Board referring to . the recent meeting: of the No. 2 Distfict Highways Council with the Waikato County Council and remarks made at the meeting that "the county suffered a loss of subsidy through the existence of the Road Boards, and also .expressing the opinion that the Road Board had nothing to gain bv merging. . The Tamahere Board was emphatic in expressing the view that it was not in sympathy with merging and concurred with the Whangamarino Road Board in the opinion that there was nothing to be gained by doing so; in fact, members thought they would fare baclly if they did so. ~ The clerk was instructed to get into touch with the Whangamarino Road Board and arrange a meeting, preliminary to joint action by tho three Road Boards, to resist merging as contrary to the interests oT the respective ratepayers. The clerk, as returning officef, announced that the result of the recent election was that Mr. Paul Ringer was appointed to the seat vacated by Mr. Lye * . ;
