Lady Cooper is visiting her daughter. Mrs. J. S. Emerson. Remuera. Mrs. Russell-Wood lias returned from Hamilton, where she was the guest of Mrs. Carrick Nisbet. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Sheath, of Hern© Bay, will- return to Auckland by the Maunganui after an extended visit, to Australia. Mrs. Sims, of Palmerston' North, who has. been staying with Mrs. E. 11. Reid, is at present the guest of J Irs. C. Lawford, Remuera Road. ■ ' A woman Judge, Mary B. Grossman, was selected to preside over the System of Morals Court recently introduced in Ohio, /U.S.A. The Court has power to take reformatory action in regard t?> people walking in the wrong moral direction, and authority to order the detention in institutions of those who decline to listen to its advice. Lady Rachel Stuart, the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire's fourth daughter and one of the most popular girls in the social world during the few seasons hefore her marriage to Captain Stuart, of the Royal Scots, is a great help' to her husband in his constituency. When in the North she frequently accompanies him to meetings and officiates at public functions. The Public Hall at Otahuhu presented a gay appearance on Monday, when over 400 guests assembled to say good-bye to Miss Eileen Madigan, who is shortly leaving for Australia. The function was organised by a strong committee of ladies, and gentlemen who desired to recognise in some tangible form the valued help gjyen by Miss Madigan at various past functions by her delightful singing. The evening's entertainment consisted of songs and dances and proved a hugo success. A shower bouquet of red carnations and rose* with maiden hair fern was presented to Miss Madigan by Mrs, Gillies on behalf of the ladies' committee, while Mr. Gillies presented a. bouquet of sweet peas, ferns and. carnations on behalf of the Orphans' Club. The Mayor, Mr, R. B. Todd, in handing Miss Madigan a ■ substantial cheque, on behalf of the citizens of Otay huhu, spoke of services rendered by Mis/ Madigan during the past years, and wished her long life and much happiness Items were given during the evening by Misses Madigan, McGruer, and Messrs Pritchard, Turner and, the Orphans* Maori Quartette, Mrs. Andrews arranged the orchestra which provided the dance music
