MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH.

BAD STATE OF THE ROADS. The Mount Albert Borough Council met last evening, Mr. L. E. Rhodes presiding. The Mayor reported that at a recent meeting of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board a decision had been made to proceed with No. 8 sewer. This would be instrumental in draining Cabbage Tree Swamp and the other low-lying areas in Edendale, and it was probable that tenders for the work would be accepted at the next meeting. Complaint regarding the state of roads in the borough was made by a deputation from the Mount Albert Ratepayers' Association. It was stated that potholes in some of the roads constituted a menace to traffic, and it was suggested the council should undertake comprehensive repair works, even taking into consideration the possibility of raising the rates. The Mayor attributed the bad state of some of the roads to the effect of heavy and fast-moving traffic. The only solution was the laying of roads in permanent materials, and the matter was receiving the consideration of the council. The building inspector reported that 29 permits for work, of a total value of £11,864, had been issued during the past three weeks, including 12 for "dwellings, valued at £10,466. A deputation from the New Zealand Natives' Association requested the council to give some assistance in improving the Morningside Reserve and making it an up-to-date recreation area. Certain proposals were outlined, and the Mayor promised that these would be kept in view. The matter was at present receiving the attention of the council. A donation of £5 5s was made to the Young Citizens' League.
