SWIMMING GALA.
THE MOUNT EDEN CLUEI. ADAMSON'S FAST TIME. The Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club's first carnival of the season was held last evening at the Mount Eden Baths, there being a large attendance-. The swimming in some of the events reached a high standard, but generally speaking the times left room for further improvement, due no doubt to the fresh water. Quite the best swim of thei evening was that of the Auckland sprint champion, Adamson, in the 100 yds. handicap. He won his heat in 605., which is probably the fsititest time ever registered by an Auckland swimmer in fresh water. He was _ unable to concede starts in the final to Baird and Enwright. Baird won his first open 100 yds. race in the good time of 62 l-ss. Miss Farquhar scored her second successive win over 100 yds. and the junior charapion of New Zealand, Miss B. Manlon, wcin in fine style from scratch in the girls' handicap. Bellam had an easy win in the 220yd8. handicap in which the back-markers could not concede the starts required of them.
