MOTOR TOURING.

ADDRESS TO ROTARY CLUB. The road-approaches to the scenic resorts of the North Island were described by Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, service officer of the Auckland Automobile Association, in an address at the luncheon of the Rotary Club yesterday. Mr. Champtaloup remarked that the A.A.A. service car had covered 26,000 miles during the past 18 months in tho search for the latest advice on road conditions and touring routes. He advised Auckland motorists who had made the usual tours to deviate from the beaten track this year and visit the vicinity of the National Park, Lake Waikaremoana, or the Urewera. Mr. Champtaloup described the popular trip through the Awakino Valley and across Mount Messenger. He expressed the opinion that the admired scenery of this locality was eclipsed by the attractions of the little-known parts of the North Island. The wet weather had affected some of the clay roads to such an extent that their use could not be recommended for some weeks. On the other hand, there were little-traversed roads in good condition which gave access to the most picturesque parts of the Auckland Province. The service officer added a warning to drivers to observe the courtesies of the highway and to drive with care on the busy tourist routes..
