TRAM STRIKES LORRY.
MQTORMAN SLIGHTLY HURT. PARNELL RISE ACCIDENT. DISLOCATION OF SERVICE. A collision between a tramcar and a horso-drawn lorry occurred at the junction of Parnell Road and Stanley Street about 9.20 last evening. The motorman, Mr. William Roberts, was slightly injured, but none of the passengers was hurt. Considerable damage was done to both vehicles, and there was a serions dislocation of the tramways service. The tram had just descended Parnell rise on its way from Remuera to the city, when the lorry swung on to the line. As the tram was travelling at a fair pace and the lorry was heavily laden with wool, the impact was severe. The force of the collision crumpled the apron of the tram and shattered the wind-screen: Mr. Roberts escaped with a bruised thigh. He was treated in the casualty ward of the hospital, and was then able to proceed to his home iu Epsom. When an effort was made to remove the tram it was found the wheels had become locked and the gears put out of action. It was necessary to shunt the tram into Customs Street West to get it out of the way, and this manoeuvre was responsible for the interruption to the service. The lorry was fairly extensively damaged.
