SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. VICTORIA V. SOUTHERN STATE. Australian and N.Z Cable Association. (Reed. 7.35 p.m.) ADELAIDE, Dec. 5. In the Sheffield Shield match, Victoria v. South Australia, Victoria in their first innings made 315 runs (Ponsford 214). Williams took six wickets for 88 runs and Grimmett two for 110. Ponsford compiled his score in 267 minutes. He hit 22 fours and one six, and played brilliantly all round the, wicket, especially on the on side. ,He gave one chance. Williams proved a most destructive bowler, turning the ball several inches both ways. South Australia in their first innings made 334 for six wickets (Schneider 69, V. Richardson 137). Richardson opened very cautiously, but later, in his partnership with Schneider, who was stonewalling, he opened out and runs came quickly. Schneider gave an excellent display and broke the back of the Victorian bowling before he was dismissed. He had batted for four hours. Richardson then piled on the runs at a great rate, scoring freely all round the wicket. GRADE COMPETITIONS. SEVERAL CENTURIES SCORED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 5 The Sydney grade cricket competitions were continued yesterday in fine weather and on batsmen's wickets. Batting for Glebe against Randwick Gray made 103 not out. For Northern Districts against Waverley Loder made 97. For Waverley Levy scored 113. For Balmain against University Wheatley made 104, and for University Hobb made 150. For Western Suburbs against Mosman Johnston made 158. For St. George against Petersham Bradman made 110 and Targett 150 not out. Bowling for Manly against North Sydney Gwynne took four wickets for 41. For Paddingtoh against Cumberland Asher took four wickets for 79. For Waverley against Northern Districts O'Connor took six wickets for 122.
