CHAIRMAN RESIGNS.
MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD LACK OF CONFIDENCE FELT. MEMBERS TAKEN BY SURPRISE. Stating that he felt he did not possess the confidence of members, tho chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, Mr. J. J. Preston, has tendered his: resignation from that body. Considerable surprise at Mr. Preston's action and at tho reason given for it was expressed' at a special meeting held to consider the resignation on Friday evening. There were present: Messrs. S. Scarborough, T. S. Lamont, A. S» Belcher, E. Brewer, W. Kerr and L. A. Tozer. Tho members expressed their regret at Mr, Preston's resignation, stating that although there had undoubtedly been differences of opinion on various matters, they thought there was nothing amounting to tho want of confidence referred to by the chairman in tendering his resignation. Mr. Scarborough was elected chairman for the rest of the term, which expires next April, when four of the present members retire, and a fresh election will bo held to fill their places. To fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Mr. Preston, a by-election will bo held on Wednesday, December 29. Mr. Scarborough is tho only old member now on the board, he and Mr. Preston hav' \g both been elected nearly ten years ago. All tho others except Mr. Brewer have been on the board only a year or two.
