THE AUCKLAND MEETING.

SOUTHERN HORSES COMING. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. Count Cavour is now moving along a bit faster in his work. He looks in the best o£ health a,nd ( ho should bo at the top of his form again for the Auckland Racing Olub'a meeting. Ho has a big weight to carry in the Auckland Cup, but this was to bo expected ai'ter his New Zealand Cup win, and he is likely to race well in his engagements at Ellerslie, a course on which he has a great record. Footfall has gone on well in Ilia preparation since the Canterbury Jockey Club'B meeting at which he showed very consistent form, and he should bo in the best of order for his Auckland engagements. He is favourably treated in the Auckland Cup with 7.7. and he should run a good race provided he can see the journey out. There is no definite line on this point as he has never been seriously tried over long distances, but his breeding lines are favourable for a stayer. It is by no means certain that he will be a runner in the Auckland Cup, as be has been nominated for a minor event on the first day, but he only requires average luck to pay his way on the trip. Footfall will be accompanied to Auckland by the three-year-old filly Paperchase. This half sister to Limelight is a smart galloper, but she is not the kind to be fancied in a big field, where there is a prospect of bumping. Mr. G. D. Greenwood vsiil have flaie and the two-year-olds Agrion and Eulalie to represent him at Auckland. They are all getting through useful work. P. I). Jones has Battlement looking in nice order for engagements ahead. He will be a competitor at the South Canterbury meeting next week, and his form there should provide a fair line to his Auckland prospects. SCRATCHING. David Garrick was struck out of the Summer Cup at 9 a.m. on Saturday. WAIPA RACING CLUB. GOOD MEETING EXPECTED. [BY telegraph.—own- correspondent. ] TE AWAMUTU, Saturday.
