DUKE OF YORK'S VISIT.
SOUTH ISLAND ITINERARY. A SLIGHT REARRANGEMENT. MAKING TOUR LESS ARDUOUS. The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergus son, has been advised that the South Island itinerary of Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of York, has been slightly amended, the rearrangement being due to a desire to make that portion of the tonr a little less arduous than would have been possible under the original proposal. The course of travel which has now been approved for the South Island will, therefore, be as follows: Wednesday, March 9.—Arrive a,t Picton. Proceed to Blenheim for luncheon and thence by motor to Nelson, where stay night. Thursday, March 10. —Motor from Ncl- J son through BuUer Gorge to Westport, | where stay night. Friday, March 11.—Leave Westport. ; Join train Inangahna, proceed., with short stop at Reefton, to Hokitika, thence to Greymouth, where stay might. Saturday, March 12.—Leave Grey- , mouth. Arrive Christchurch evening. Sunday, March 13, Monday, March 14, and Tuesday, March 15.—At Christchurch. Wednesday, March 16.—Leave Christchurch by train for Dunedin, with short stops at Ashburton, Timaru and Oamaru. Arrive Dunedin evening. Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18.—At, Dunedin. Saturday, March 19.—Leave Dunedin by train for Cromwell, thence by motor via Lakes Hawea and Wanaka, to Pembroke, where stay night. Sunday, March 20.—At Pembroke, Monday, March 21. —Motor from Pembroke to Queenstown (afternoon on Lake Wakatipu) } where stay night. Tuesday, March 22.—Leave Queenstown by train, short stop at Gore, stop at Invercargill, proceed to Bluff, thence to join H.M.S. Renown, anchored off Stewart Island. Depart for Australia. The original programme provided that the Royal party should spend the night of Thursday, March 10, at Greymouth. This would have meant crowding Into the one day the events which have now been spread over Thursday and Friday,, A number of minor altei'ations have also been made to this part of the programme. On the party's visit to the southern lakes, Sunday, March 20, will be spent at Pembroke, instead of at Queenstown, as originally proposed. On Monday, March 21, a proposed trip by steamer to Kingston has been deleted from the programme. The party will proceed_ direct from Queenstown to Bluff by train. Formerly it was proposed that the party should spend the night of March 21 at Invercargill, but it has now been arranged that the train shall merely stop for a time at Invercargill on the journey to Bluff.
