CAPSIZE OVER A BANK. VEHICLE FALLS FORTY FEET. ONE OF OCCUPANTS INJURED. [by telegraph.—own correspondent;] TAIHAPE, Friday K There have been many motor-car accidents in thei Taihapo district during the past few weeks, 1 almost an average of one every two days, but tho occupants escaped fatal injuries. Another accident occurred last evening on the Mataroa Road. A motor-car driven by a commercial traveller, evidently not acquainted with the road, ran into a damaged portion of the road and capsized ' The car fell ovw a bank, and toppled down an almost perpendicular slope to the ground, 40ft. below. One occupant escaped unhurt, but the driver sustained severe cuts to one hand and injuries to the face and head. STRUCK BY MOTOR-CAR. MAN DIES FROM INJURIES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT, j . CHBISTCHUECH. Friday' In avoiding a collision with anothei car in Victoria Street on the afternoon of November 24, a motor-car driven by Arthur Howard Murray, land and estate agent, (Jhriistchureh, jumped the footpath and struck Charles Nelson, a labourer, who died the following day in hospital. The inquest was resumed to-day before Mr. H. P. Lawry, coroner. Dr. D. N. Epstein, house surgeon, said that on admission to the hospital Nelson was suffering from severe shock, a frac ture of the left thigh and a fracture oi the right log below the knee. Nelson's condition improved, until he collapsed and died. Death was due to shock follow ing these injuries. A witness stated that Murray's cai came up behind another car, driven by a lady, ;whieh was turning to the right Murray slewed ,to the right, narrowly missed a collision, jumped the footpath and struck Nelson, pinning him against' la door.' - '; ■ " ' ; - Referring to the question of speed the coroner said it was . not so much a question of speed but one whether or not Murray in the circumstances was justified in attempting to pass the-car in front.
