TAKAPUNA TRAMWAYS.
Sir,—l understand that the primary object of the Takaptma Borough Council in holding meetings during its recent can; paign was to acquaint the electors witW the opinions, obtained from the expert reports, secured by it. The fact that the members of the council were divided in their opinions proves that the reports could be viewed from two points, at least Why, therefore, were the electors permitted only to hear the views of a few of the council,, who were so plainly in favour of the purchase? In view of a further poll to be held, I would suggest that on future occasions of the kind the full council shoild preside and anv councillors who wish to address the meeting should be permitted to do so from their own platform. The matter does not end with the purchase money being raised. Once that portion of the loan has been authorised by the ratepayer he stands committed for any further suras incidental to the electrification of the serv : ce, for even the present optomistic members of the council, do not suggest that the undertaking can be made to pay run in its present form. The monopoly alone is not sufficient to make it a success, as the Tramway Company proved, when they held it for so many years. C. V. Haii,.
