TAURANGA PROSPECTS.
RAIN BENEFITS PASTURES. MARKED BUILDING ACTIVITY. [bi: telegraph.—own correspondent. ] TAURANGA. Thursday. After a fine spell heavy rain fell ; it intervals to-day. Pastures will further benefit and are showing a great growth. The humid weather, will accelerate the germination of the newly-planted crops and the early maize is now, showing through the ground. The first cut- has been harvested from lucerne, stands. -The fruit crops are promising jvell and ■peaches and plums have set heavily. The apple trees are in full bloom' and present a pretty sight in numerous orchards. The building trade continues brisk in the borough, and at present 15 dwellings aud shops are in course of erection. A large two-storey boarding house iff also being built at Mount Maunganui. The official opening of the. Tauranga Croquet Club took place on the xDomain grounds yesterday afternoon .in ideal weather. There was a good attendance of members and friends. The patron of the club, Mr. W. S. Harris, wekomed the visiters and complimented tlie club on the excellent condition of the lawns. He then declared the season open.
