THE TRAMWAY SERVICE.
Sir,—l am sure everybody will admit that you are on the right lines in your sub-leader of Wednesday on "Trams and Omnibuses." Can I raggest two muchneedfid improvements on the' Dominion Road lirle. (1) At rash hours run a special express service and charge full fare only. Every decent city does this, so why does Auckland lag behind ? Run every other car to Valley Road only, as not half of the cars need to go past that section. At present long-distance travellers are crowded out by the shortdistance traveller. If half only of the cars were to stop at Valley Road, see how many extra trips can be made at no extra expense. (2) Put one car only on after midnight. I have known of heaps of cases of men and women having to walk aftej missing the last car. so I certainly think that the authorities should give 'the late car a trial. I have often wondered why a progressive city like Auckland should lag behind Christchurch so much in tramway matters. Take another example. Cold Christchurch has an open-sided car that is cool and empties quickly. Yet hot Auckland only has the closed" car which is stnffy and painfully slow to empty and refill. This means an awful waste of time in the day's work. Dominion Road Travetjjir.
