QUARRY AT OAKLEY CREEK
COUNTY'S OFFER DECLINED
Tho Auckland City Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon. presiding. The Waitemata County, Council wrote offering its Oakley Creek quarry, consisting of 5k acres of stonetbearing land, with salt-water access, and a complete electrically-driven crushing-plant capable of dealing with 100 cubic yards of metal a day. Tho offer was declined, as the council already has considerable stonebearing property at Western Springs.
The Works Committee, reporting on a request from a deputation that Belgium Street should revert to its original name of Upper Queen Street, recommended that the matter should be further considered when the proposed continuation of the street had been finalised.
On the recommendation of the Works Committee, it was decided that while the work of constructing the Hnia pipeline and the Nihotupu filtration plant is 'in progress no traffic other than that belonging to the council should be allowed on Exhibition Drive, except by special permit, from the city engineer or the waterworks superintendent. The Play Association applied for permission to hold a children's day . and street collection on December 10. in aid of its funds. The matter was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee. In connection with a petition from 90 residents asking for some form of shelter for tram-passengers at Aldred Road stop in Victoria Avenue, it was decided to replv that the matter would lie considered w7i.cn next year's estimates were being framed. A bonus of £IOO was voted to Dr. W. Gilmonr for his services in furnishing fortnightly analyses in connection with the city water supply.
