CONTACT WITH LIVE WIRE. MAN INJURED BY FALL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday. An inquest was opened this morning regarding the death yesterday of Mr. Samuel Joseph Rutledge, who died in the hospital following injuries received at the railway locomotive sheds. Evidence was given that deceased, who was a telegraph employee, was engaged in repairing telephone wires in the sheds. Ho was working on a ladder 21ft. above the ground when he was observed by a workman to be hanging in mid-air, with a wire in each hand. He had apparentlykicked the ladder away. Another ladder was brought, but he fell before it could be raised and struck the back of his head. Ho was in a dying condition when removed to the hospital. The wires deceased had seized were electric light wires carrying a fairly high voltage. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
