KING'S COLLEGE ELEVEN. I I A DRAWN GAME PLAYED. A match between the King's College first eleven and Mr. E. C. Beak's team was played at the college grounds, Middlemore, yesterday afternoon. The result was a drawn game. The visitors, winning Ine toss, bat-ed first and scored 158 for six wickets. E. Horspool made 75 (retired). H. Duncan. 20; A. M. Haresnape, 28; P. C. Turley, 8; It. Stewart, 11 not out; and J. Hume, 6 not out. Moorhouse took three wickets and Keddle two. . . King's College replied with 121 lor eight wickets, Walton making 59 runs; Smith, 20; Gillett, 16; and Brown, 14 not out. Lester took three wickets and Luke two. THE WAIKATO ASSOCIATION. i OPENING OF THE SEASON. [p.y TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Wednesday. The Waikato Cricket Association will open the season next Saturday, October 30. Sixteen teams will take part in the first round of the competition. The Management Committee has this year initiated the policy of grading the teams, with a view of producing more even matches and interesting cricket. Three grades have been established —Senior A. Senior B and Junior. The number of teams in the Senior A has been reduced to four. School having withdrawn its senior team and Railway taking part in the Senior B section. This leaves the four old-established clubs in the section. Frankton, Hamilton East, Hamilton and Old Boys. The Senior B Section, which will, like the Senior A, play two-day matches, includes four teams—Railway, Hamilton _ East. Y.M.C.A.. and Frankton —while in the iunior section there are eicht teams —Old Boys, Hamilton East. Y.M.C.A.. Railway, Cambridge, Technical Old Boys, Rugby and Frankton—which will play one-day gnmes. Hamilton East, Y.M.C.A., Cambridge, Technical Old Boys and Rugby are new teams to the grade, while Hamilton. Hopuhopu and School have fallen out. The draw for the first matches in. each grade is:— Senior A.—Old Boys v. Frankton, Hamilton v. Hamilton East. Senior B.—Frankton v. Railiww*. Hamilton East v. Y.M.C.A. Junior Grade.--Rucby v. Old Boys, Hamilton East v. Cambridge. Technical- Old Btoys v. Y.M.C.A.. Railway v. Frankton. GAME AT TAIHAPE. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] TAIHAPE. Wednesday. The cricket season was officially opened at Taihape on Labour Day when a Town v. Country match was played on the Recreation Ground. The Country team batted first and scored 200 (Halbert 11. Chrystali 37. Whittle 12, Paramore 40. Wiffin 10, Dalrymple 13, Hakopa not out 17, Snclling 22). Belliss took five wickets for 41 runs; Young two for 36; McClure two for 48; Fleet, one for seven. The Town team was dismissed for 35, Dash wood (15). alone reaching double figures. Chase took five wickets for four runs; Wiffin four for three; Whittle one for two; Paramore none for 23. Town followed on. Martin scoring 50 and Fleet 17. Sinclair ma-dc 13 before time was called.
