FRUITGROWERS' NEEDS.

VISIT BY HON. 0. J. HAWKEN. In pursuance of his intention to visit the chief fruitgrowing districts of the Dominion, the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. 0. J. Hawken, will arrive from Wellington on Monday morning to spend a week in the fruitgrowing areas around Auckland. He has already visited Nelson and Hawko's Bay, meeting the local fruitgrowers and acquiring a first-hand knowledge of their requirements. According to a programme drawn up by the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers' Council the 'Minister on arrival on Monday will pay a visit to the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company's cool stores fo watch the grading and packing of fruit for export.. An inspection of the city markets will follow. Afterwards he will visit Avondaie to interview the local citrus fruit and tomato growers, and then ho will visitthe strawberry beds at Hillsborough and Waikov.'hai. Later the same day he will interview the fruitgrowers at Mange re and Otahuhu. On Tuesdny Mr. Hawken will visit Oratia, proceeding to Henderson the same afternoon. Wednesday's itinerary will commence with a visit to Kumeu, Huapai and Waimauku, the party then proceeding to the Forestry Department's nursery and plantations at JUverhead. On Thursday the Minister will visit Albany, Dairy Flat and Birkdale, and on Friday a call will be made at Te Kauv/hata on the return to Wellington. Mr. Hawken hopes to visit Port Albert and Whangarei in the New Year, proceeding' to Tauranga and other Bay of Plenty centres about the same time.
