The Prime Miuister, Mr. Stanley Bal3win, will open the Imperial Conference at a private session at No. 10, Downing Street, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. He will read an address of welcome to the overseas Prime Ministers, who will reply. No set agenda has been drawn up for the conference. It will be decided from day to day what subjects shall be takenThe Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. S. M. Bruce, has already had general preliminary interviews with several members of the British Cabinet. . The Empire Producers' Association has prepared a memorandum for submission to the conference. In this it says the house-wife holds the key to the situation as regards the purchase of Empire products. Vigorous advertising of Empire products is needed, but the first appeal must be made to the house-wife. Further than that, says the memorandum, the advertising should be in the hands of the producers. Empire preference is advocated, not only in tariffs but in income tax on Empire investments as compared with foreign investments, also in materials used in Government and public contracts. The opinion is expressed that statutory sanction should be given to producers' organisations to enable them to act comprehensively like the New Zealand Meat Board. The conference is invited to consider the necessity for fast refrigerated ships in the Australian and Now Zealand trades, and to give its approval to the contemplated conference of Imperial producers. Tho Duke of Sutherland is the presi-dent-elect of the Producers' Association for 1927.
