A LOST INVESTMENT.
SYNOD ORDERS INQUIRY. SUM OF £SOOO INVOLVED. A COMMITTEE APPOINTED. The Auckland Diocesan Clergy Pension Board is a creditor for £SOOO in the estate of Hassell Garland, sharebroker, who recently committed suicjde. Action, which is understood to relate to this money, was taken by tho Diocesan Synod yesterday. Mr. A. B. Roberton was allowed to move, without notice, "That a committee be set up to inquire into and report upon the loss of an investment made by the Pension Board." Mr. Roberton explained that the matter was not one that couid be discussed at that stage in open synod, but it was desirable that a committee be set up to prepare a report, which the synod might discuss later. A suggestion that the synod go into committee on the matter was not pursued, Archbishop Averill remarking that be preferred Mr. Roberton's proposal. The motion was carried, and the following committee was set up: —Archdeacon Mac Murray (chairman and convener), Canons F. W. Young, P. James, and H. Mason, Messrs. Lusk, G. A. Kissling and Norman Burton. The mover stated that the matter could not yet be discussed in open synod, and it was desirable that an inquiry be held and a report presented for the synod's consideration.
