SWIMMING.
THE AUCKLAND CENTRE. ~~ INSTRUCTION OF CHILDREN. The annual meeting of the Auckland Swimming Centre was held last evening, the president, Mr. E. H. Potter, presiding. Mr. Potter congratulated the centre on the success obtained in the New Zealand championships last year. He said the financial position was satisfactory. Receipts during the year had exceeded expenditure by about- '.£ i. Tho work of teaching swimming to children in the Auckland schools was reported on by the educational officer, Mr. L. Brighton. The report stated that although the results obtained were not as favourable as in the 1923-24 season they were, nevertheless, very creditable. During the year, 529 association certificates and IG2 club certificates were issued to children of the Ponsonby School. Other club certificates were issued as follow:—Napier Street, 73; Blind Institute, 18; Maungawbau, 15; Nelson Street, 61; and Parnell, 20. The following officers were elected:—Patrons. Sir James Gunson and Mr. G. Baildon; president, Mr. E. H. Potter; vice-presidents. Messrs. J. R. Rendell, E. T. Taylor, A. Hodgson, P. R. Fraser, and G. Foster; chairman of centre, Mr. T. C. Hobbs-Jones: vice-chairman, Mr. R. Cowley; honorary secretary. Mr. H. Moor; honorary treasurer, Mr. C. A. Edenborough; education officer, Mr. L. Brighton; local officer, Mr. D. Mulvihill.
