SISTERS OF THE MISSION.

NEW CHAPEL. IN HAMILTON. FOUNDATION STONE BLESSED. [llY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COR KESPON DENT.'] HAMILTON. Sunday. Tho first stage in the erection of a large threc-.storeyed convent in Hamilton has been commenced with the construe-' tion of a chapel for the use of the Sisters of the Mission, who conduct the convent. The foundation stone of the chapel was blessed to-day by Dr. H. W. Cleary, Bishop of Auckland, who was assisted by Fathers Bleakley, of Hamilton, and Ford, of Te Aroha. A very largo number of people witnessed tho ceremony, which was followed by a service iu the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary. Father Bleakley, in an address to the congregation, appealed for greater financial assistance for the Sisters of tho Mission. He said the five teaching sisters I received from the people a siim which was altogether inadequate. Dr. Cleary said the Sisters of the Mission were first established in Now Zealand at Napier in 1865, and in Hamilton in 1885. They had been carrying on 1 the work of the Apostles, promoting personal sanctification and trying to instill into the hearts and minds of the children a knowledge of God. Tho chapel would prove an invaluable aid to the sisters in getting nearer to God. Dr. Cleary went on to speak of the Secular system of education in New Zealand. Roman Catholics, he said, would never accept a "boiled down" Christianity that many well-intentioned people would like them to have. They must have the Catholic faith and the whole Catholic faith. No system that raised a, bar to that faith would Ha accepted. He protested against the sysfa n which did not permit Roman Catholic schools to be subsidised by tho State. Catholics would keep on making their demand for relief from the financial burden they carried in the education of children until this was granted. The now chape] occupies an area 60ft. by 30ft., and is being built in brick and reinforced concrete. It is designed on a Romanesque style of architecture and when finished will present a handsome appearance* .
