Miss Bartlett sailed by the Ulimaroa on Friday for Sydney. Mrs. Lloyd Clay, of Wellington, is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. R. B. Allen, of Morrinsville, is in town, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. INlrs. H. Brabant, of Auckland, is visiting Mrs. Baring Brabant, St. Clair, Dunedin. Mrs. Peoples, who -has been on a prolonged visit to New Zealand, has returned to Sydney! Miss T. St. Clair-White, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. Campbell Johnstone, Whatawhata. Mrs. Reece, of Christchurch, is on a visit to Auckland and is staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. 0. K. Tcnnant. of Auckland, are. staying at Albert House, St. Clair, Dunedin. Mrs. Cyril Girdlestone, of Muritai, Wellington, has returned from a trip to Auckland and Hamilton. Miss Ninna Kronfcld. of Auckland, who has been 011 an extended visit to C hristchurch, has left for the North. Mrs. de la Mare is leaving for Hamilton this morning on a visit to her daughter-in-law. Dr. de la Mare. Mrs. Hardie Dyer, Masterton. is at present in Auckland, and is staying with Miss Moss, Takutai' Street, Parnell. Mrs. S. Hesketh and Miss Hesketh, of Epsom, are on a visit to Rotorua, accompanied by Mrs. Tudhope, ot l*uiranga. Mrs. Patterson Boyle, Londonderry, Ireland, and Miss A. Picketh and Miss D. Hawkins, of Morrinsville, are included among the guests staying at Stonehurst A fancy-dress ball for children in connection with the Caledonian Society was held at Rotorua during the week-end. and was a great success. The hall presented a beautiful appearance and about 100 children took part in the parade. Mesdames Hocklv and Hay and Misses Evans and Hockly were the judges. Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson has intimated her desire to address a meeting of women interested in the League of Mothers during her visit to Dunedin this week,. The Council of Christian Congregations has appointed a provisional committee, of women to meet in the Council Chambers, Town Hall, to organise the meeting at which Her Excellency will speak. . The Raetihi Amateur Dramatic Society gave a most successful presentation of "The Private Secretary" at the Patriotic Hall on Friday evening before a most appreciative audience. The substantial proceeds will be donated to the, local branch of the Plunket Society. Dr. W. J. Feltham was responsible for the production, taking the title role himself, and the allocation of the cast was most successful. The Raetihi Orchestra contributed excellent music. The first Women's Institute in the Auckland province was started at Swanson last week, when a meeting was held at the Swanson Public Hall Miss Lewis, who was county organiser for Carmarthen, North Wales, gave an address on the objects of the country institutes, and Miss F. M. Girdler spoke of the work done by the organisation throughout Canada. It was unanimously agreed that the movement should be started in; Swanson, and the necessary constitution was formed. The first announcement of positions in connection with the children's queen carnival in Te Awamutu to raise funds for the Municipal Band was made on Saturday. The townspeople's queen, Miss Peggy Armstrong, headed the poll, with Hairini queen (Miss Marie McDonald) second, the sports queen (Miss June Blundell) third, and Kihikihi queen (Miss Marjorie Anderson) fourth. Flags denoting t.ho positions of the queens will bo flown each Saturday. The carnival closes on October 27. and the town and district is very busy at present raising funds for the respective candidates. The Query Club organised a most successful dance in the Amateur Operatic Society's Hall, Grafton Road, last week, the proceeds being in aid of the t ampbell Creche, Grey Street. About 100 couples were present and an enjoyable time was spent. The members of an efficient orchestra, under the leadership of Miss G. Mclndoe, kindly gave their services. Misses Jean Burt and Ruby Eddowes were the joint secretaries. The members of the club are endeavouring to raise sufficient money with which to build a much needed sun porch for the children at the Creche, and this effort resulted in a substantial sum being added to the fund.
