DAMAGES FOR INJURY.

SHIPPING COMPANY SUED. |"PV TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. Damages have now been assessed in (he case of J. Hoskin, New Plymouth, against the Nmv Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., in which reserved judgment by Mr. Justice Reed was given in favour of the plaintiff on the. ground that there had been negligence on the part of the compnny in the method of work adopted at the time when Hoskin was injured by a fall of bags from a cargo stack while unloading sing from the motor-ship Enton at New Plymouth. Plaintiff was awarded the sum of £399 13s, special damages, including loss of wages as a watersider for 69 weeks, loss ol earnings as a dancing teacher, nnd hospital and medical expenses; and the sum of £250 general dainagos, judgment being given for a total sum of £649 13s, less such amount as he might have received as compensation under the Workers' Compensation Act.
